Mark in his element

An Atlanta native, Mark has been tinkering with bicycles since he was a kid. In the beginning he would take the coaster brake mechanisms out of the rear hubs of his friend’s bmx bikes and install a hand brake (which was so much cooler). In 1996 a friend let him borrow a mountain bike to go for a ride on some trails near the Chattahoochee River and He was hooked! His career in the bicycle business began about a month later when he found a part time job working at AJ Barnes Bicycles in Marietta Ga. While there he learned the basics of bicycle maintenance and how to run a shop from the owner of the store. As his knowledge in bicycle maintenance grew he moved on to Atlanta Cycling where he worked on high end road and race bikes. Eventually he became a lead mechanic and operations manager for one of the nations largest bicycle shops. Mark never gets tired of bicycles or the business. It is his true passion and calling. We are extremely pleased at Decatur Bikes to have such a knowledgeable individual on our staff. In addition to his many shop functions he also maintains the companies website and social network pages. If you have not already like us on facebook  you can search for us by our FB name: Decatur Bikes and follow us on twitter. Joey Schoenfeld

Joey posing in the shop

Joey has been with the Decatur Bikes team since June 2009, & under Mark’s tutelage, has soaked up the mechanics of bike service.
He recently attended Parkview High School, graduating the tallest in his class at 6’8”. Joey is in his 3rd season of competing in cycle-cross. He has won 1st in the 15-18 age group the last two years, & was the junior state champion in 2009. He also races at the velodrome on his fixed-wheel. He has really come out of his shell since he’s been with us, & as our shop comedian, he leaves us all laughing whether he has meant to or not. He is attending Georgia Gwinnett College, & we hope to keep him on board as long as we can.
