How it all started

Dave tells the story- In February, 2006, with 30 or so of my Team-in-Training teammates at a post-swim meeting at Moe’s on North Druid Hills. I overheard a common theme – somebody needed to open another Triathlon supply store in Atlanta. Not just another store, but one that focused on the developing triathlete and cyclist. It needed to be a store where someone can come in as a novice rider, be sold the correct equipment and learn the sport from knowledgeable staff. After struggling for 5 years to find Atlanta stores that carried the things we triathletes wanted, I knew they were right. So teaming with a category-two eligible, only speed is fast, cyclist friend, and my triathlete wife Tammy, we began to envision a store that was heavy on cycling and cycling gear to service the bike clubs, but would also be the one stop shop for all things triathlon. While we’ve had to postpone the indoor lap pool for wetsuit fitting, the hypoxic training cube for low-oxygen recovery workouts, and even the showers and Massage Therapist, we do have the F.I.S.T. bike fitting certification. The journey took a full 18 months from concept to concrete. But now, with the associations of Tri Bike Transport and the pools at Mercer University and Agnes Scott College, the cooperation of great vendors like Jamis, KHS, Zipp Speed Weaponry, and Saris/Cycleops, we feel that we have the very location that was described that cold February evening. The final part of the puzzle fell into place when we hired Mark Scarbrough to join us as the General Manager. Decatur Bikes has the staff that can properly fit you to your bicycle, and show you how to maintain your bike and tri gear, answer questions on nutrition, and provide you access to clubs and organizations within the cycling and triathlon communities including our own beginner triathlon club. Going into our fourth year of business, Decatur Bikes continues to be a work-in-process, but it is a labor of love. And we continue to look for the best equipment, and provide the best customer service. We hope you will consider us your triathlon and cycling equipment source.
